Description
Description
The FSW-6000/7000 Series arethermal flow switch monitorsdesigned to monitor flow status andalso used to detect level of liquids,air and gas. A chain of 8 LED’sgives the user a visual indication ofthe flow rate. In addition, there isalso a dichromatic LED, whichshows the switch point status of theunit. The sensing element andconnection of the FSW-6000/7000Series are made with 316 SS. The standard enclosure isglass-filled nylon and is alsoavailable in an aluminum enclosurefor hazardous environments. TheFSW-6000/7000 Series can bemade with a great variety ofprocess connections such asthreaded, flange, or sanitary.
The FSW-6000/7000 Series line ofthermal flow switch monitors isbased on the principle of thermaldispersion. A typical configurationuses two platinum ResistanceTemperature Detectors (RTD’s) setwithin the tip of the sensor. One RTDis heated a few degrees above thetemperature of the medium and theother RTD is used as a reference,sensing the actual processtemperature. The second RTD alsomonitors the temperature of themedium, as any changes intemperature must be compensatedfor in the first RTD. As the processmedium flows over the tip of thesensor it disperses some of theheat from the first RTD. Thetemperature change between thetwo RTD's signals the probe’selectronics and the switch changesstate once the set point hasreached.
The FSW-6000/7000 Series maybe installed in a pipe or tank usingthe thread or connection provided.Use only the hexagon whentightening to achieve a seal, do notuse the body. The body should berotated after tightening to leave thecable gland in suitable orientation.The FSW-6000/7000 Series is notaffected by its fixing position so itmay be installed at any anglearound the pipe. However, it isrecommended that with horizontalpipe runs the sensor should beinstalled on the side, into the middleof the pipe. In vertical pipes, theFSW-6000/7000 Series should beinstalled when there is flow in anupward direction against gravity.Care should be taken wheninstalling the sensor that the probeextends clear of the pipe’s internalwall and is fully immersed into theflow. In pipes with smallerdiameters, some care should alsobe taken so that the sensor is notscrewed too far into the line.
